Lufthansa pet fee in detail
Lufthansa does not publish cabin amounts on its pet pages: "The price depends upon the route and is charged only once per flight direction", including Lufthansa connecting flights. Charged again for return flights and stopovers over 24 hours. Paid at check-in or the Lufthansa service counter.
Where you can't fly with a pet
Lufthansa may refuse bookings on certain routes, e.g. the UK, Ireland and Bangalore (India), and may apply stricter rules. Minimum age is 15 weeks from/to/via Germany. Passenger is responsible for import/export compliance.
How many pets you can bring
Up to two animals per passenger in total (cabin and/or hold), but only one carrier per passenger in the cabin. Normally one animal per carrier; exceptions are two young animals of comparable size (min 12 weeks), two fully grown animals of comparable size, or a mother with one young animal aged 0-6 weeks, as long as the total stays within 8 kg.
How to book a pet on Lufthansa
Register the animal in advance; Lufthansa confirms availability and books it no later than 72 hours before departure. Two printed, signed confirmation forms must be presented at check-in.
Lufthansa pet cargo and checked pets
Dogs and cats over 8 kg go in the hold as excess baggage (max two animals per passenger; min age 12 weeks, 15 weeks to/from Germany, 6 months for dogs to the USA). IATA-compliant container required; stricter requirements from 04 May 2026. Price depends on route and container size (not published); transfer surcharge via Brussels, Geneva, Frankfurt, Vienna or Zurich of EUR 150 / CHF 170 / USD 170 / CAD 220. No hold animals on connections via Munich. Fighting dog breeds only in special crates in the hold. Other species via Lufthansa Cargo.

Snub-nosed dog and cat breeds (e.g. bulldogs except American bulldogs, pugs, Boston terriers, boxers, Pekingese, Shih Tzus; British shorthair, Persian, Himalayan, Exotic shorthair, Scottish fold cats, and their crosses) have been barred from the cargo hold since 1 January 2020; they may still travel in the cabin.
Service and emotional support animals
Recognised assistance dogs (e.g. guide, hearing, diabetic or seizure alert dogs, with training documentation) fly free in the cabin on any route; emotional support animals are not accepted.

Note: Cabin fee amount could not be verified: the official pages (US, DE, BE English versions) give no amounts. counts_as_carry_on=false because Lufthansa describes animals as "additional carry-on baggage" and the free baggage allowance can be used in addition to the pet fee. Fighting dog breeds and some breeds banned from import into Germany (pit bull, American Staffordshire, Staffordshire bull terrier, bull terrier) have extra rules. Medium confidence because the fee is unpublished.
